We woke in these ever-so-humble accommodations again. It was time to leave this 'hotel' and I wasn't sad about it!
It's always good to start an adventure day with good oral hygiene. Bonus if you complete your duties in pairs, starting on strangely placed toilets in a very African hotel.
We hit the road on a very hazy day. Where does this road go, anyway?
The destination was a Nubian Village along the Nile. And let me tell you, Nubia it was! We have been to Nubia, you see, so we know these things.
The homes are so unique. And lovely.
The locals invite visitors into their home (for a cost of course, which naturally you don't know until you've finished your visit).
It was a home like so many we used to visit years ago. An open courtyard connected each of the other rooms.
This mother gave Sweet N some henna.
And fancied up the girls' hair.
We sat also with the grandmother and a couple of their children. They were all so comfortable, it was easy to see they had many like us visiting.
Even just seeing doors like these brings back so many nostalgic feelings...
Outside the gate I had even more flashbacks. This three year old boy in the desert is JUST like another little three year old who called the desert his home at that age...
This is that boy! What has happened?!
We meandered around the village. So much to see. (And watch out for!)
Our meandering took up up a hill.
Then back down to the local market.
Look, a branch of Carrefour all the way down here!
We found a man weaving.
He was very good at photographs also.
No, we didn't buy anything. He probably didn't like that.
Then we drove onto our next stop. The dam!
I read all about it in the tour book, and we studied the signs. So interesting!
Too bad it was so hazy we couldn't' see much from up there.
The next stop was McDonalds for dinner. We didn't have THAT in the REAL Nubia though.
Poor tuckered fellow.
We all feel so comfortable in local markets. It's remarkable. And Bridger was so tired he was basically acting drunk. It was very entertaining.
Here he found a small friend just his size.
Some local fuul sandwiches for a dinner. Yum. What a full, wonderful adventurous day.
