Thankful

We are thankful for much these days. Our God has been more than generous with us in most every way.

Thanksgiving overseas is different every year. It’s never the same as being at home with our families and there is always an aching in our hearts to be with all of our loved ones on this holiday. But we always make the best, and most years, this year included… was pretty darn good!!!

My friend Katrina and I managed to pull off a very large and authentic Thanksgiving meal with all the regular dishes entirely from scratch (save a few canned items). The menu included baked chicken (not willing to pay big bucks for turkey), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, carrots, gravy, cranberries and yeast rolls! And that doesn’t even include the hors d'oeuvres (yes, we even made hors d'oeuvres). In case you can’t tell, I was pretty proud of us, especially since we did it with only four burners and a toaster oven. Everything was even hot at the same time! Wow!

No please, hold the applause.

Here’s the beautiful table that later overflowed with edible goodness and beautiful people.

Simple. Good.

After dinner, we had a little activity and put the leaves on our Thankful Tree. We had pre-cut the leaves and the tree and we all wrote things we are thankful for on the leaves.

Oh, and the little girls wrote on themselves.

What are you gonna do?

Once the writing/drawing was complete, we started the sticking.

Sweet N was the most enthusiastic leaf sticker. She looooved this part, giving each leaf three or four or five real good smacks on the mirror before running off to her Daddy to give her another leaf to stick.

Not exactly a work of art, but I like it!

Now for some of the thankfulness…

Zangoora!! Of course!

The little’s girlies’ contributions.

And the little boys’.

This one got a hearty “So thankful” from all the adults in the room, far from home.

Oh yes.

Halleluiah and amen!

IMG_0707

Aahhhhhhhh.

So thankful.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

  2. I enjoyed reading about your Thanksgiving celebration. I can relate to chicken instead of turkey. We did leaves too!
